Strategizing

Being on the late shift (I was the last to leave yesterday, at about 3:30 a.m.), I came in around one today, along with with a massive Subway order. Bryan, Lars, Eric, Leon and Chris were all here, hacking away.

We took a little lunch break and discussed where we are, and things are looking pretty good. The parser was cleaned up a bit more this morning, and seems to be finished. We finished off the command generation (which keeps track of the current acceleration and turning state and, given a desired state, generates the list of commands to reach it) yesterday night. There’s now little enough infrastructure work that we can easily afford to dedicate one or two teams here in the office to more sophisticated navigation algorithms.

The one big PITA that’s left is the lack of some Haskell libraries on the live CD: we need Network (soon to be Network.Socket), Parsec, and HUnit to build (though we don’t need HUnit at runtime). From the looks of it at this point, they’re never going to be put on the live CD, so we need to include those with our binary. So one of my jobs this afternoon is to figure out how we can do that. I’m hoping we can just do a static link, but I’m worried that it might not be that simple.

Anyway, time to get back to work….
